Died at her home near Pilot Grove, Ia. July 12th, 1893. Rachel Bunker, aged 78 years 9 months, 20 days. Rachel Marshall , daughter of John and Anna Marshall, was born Sept. 22nd, 1814 in the state of North Carolina. In 1821 the family moved to Henry Co., Ind., where at the age of 16 Rachel was joined in marriage with Mordecai Bond. Nine Children blessed this marriage, only three of who are living, vis. Lovinia - Mrs. Wm. Reynolds, of Wesleyn, Neb., Eunice - Mrs. Ezra Hockett, of Clay Co., Iowa, and Wm. Bond, of near Salem, Iowa. They moved to Iowa in 1846, and in 1849 when typhoid fever was epidemic and so many were taken away by its ravages, Mordecai Bond was among the number and the wife and mother was left to struggle with the demands of her family of small children, alone in a new country. Yet amid the privation of pioneer life, she bravely battled and successfully met the necessities of her family until 1864, when she was united in marriage with Robt. W. Bunker, with whom she pleasantly lived until 1869, when by his death she was again left a widow. Since then she has made her home with her son, Wm. Bond, who was left a widower with two small children, to these the grandmother became mother. To this care was added that of her afflicted daughter Libbie Bond, who for more than 18 years was confined to here chair. In all these cares and responsibilities she maintained a steadfast Christian life, having been a life-long member of Friends church. Funeral services were held at the Chestnut Hill Church conducted by Rev. Levi Gregory, assisted by Rev. Pool and Tamar Maddock. A host of friends and neighbors were present to manifest their love and sympathy.
