Description	:	"Ralph Calvin Veenker was born in Grundy county, Iowa, on the 19th day of August, 1874. In 1888 he came to Lyon county with his parents. On November 16, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Fannie Kasjens. This happy union was blessed with eleven children, two of these having died in infancy. On Sunday evening, March 28th, Mr. Veenker took sick. The sickness did not appear to be of a serious nature at first, however, growing steadily worse, medical aid was summoned and found that he was dangerously ill, due to the condition of the heart. On... Read More	"Ralph Calvin Veenker was born in Grundy county, Iowa, on the 19th day of August, 1874. In 1888 he came to Lyon county with his parents. On November 16, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Fannie Kasjens. This happy union was blessed with eleven children, two of these having died in infancy. On Sunday evening, March 28th, Mr. Veenker took sick. The sickness did not appear to be of a serious nature at first, however, growing steadily worse, medical aid was summoned and found that he was dangerously ill, due to the condition of the heart. On April 1st, 1920, at his home near town, after an illness of but three days, the summons came and he closed his eyes in quiet slumber. Mr. Veenker was a very friendly man to meet and well thought of by all who knew and associated with him. He was a kind husband and a loving father and active in the church, having been a member of the Zoar church, better known as the Hayenga church, for 24 years. He and his wife having been the first young people who united with that church. For a number of years he was Sunday school superintendent at the Zoar church and was a Sunday school teacher in our Sunday school ever since living near town. On the Sunday he took sick Mr. and Mrs. Veenker's letter of dismission from the Zoar church were acknowledged by our session and names placed upon our church roll. Mr. Veenker believed in Jesus as his savior and in his grace trusted for salvation of which fact he also gave testimony in his last hours, tho in great phyiscal weakness. He leaves to mourn his early departure, his loving wife, nine children--gour sons and five daughters--ranging in age from 8 months to 20 years, his aged and bereaved parents, four brothers and two sisters, and many other relatives and friends. He reached the age of 45 years, 7 months and 12 days. The funeral took place on Monday April 5th, Rev. Hayenga preaching a sermon in German, the Rev. Boell preaching in English. The remains were taken to Evergreen Lawn cemetery for burial. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in George. The relatives that attended were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hassebroek and son from Willow Lake, S. D.; John S. Veenker, Northwood, Ia.; Henry Casjens, Hayti, S. D.; Fred Casjens, Elkton, S. D.; Mrs. D. Harberts and son John, Grundy Center, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Veenker, Sioux Falls; Rev. John S. Shroder, Trent, S. D.; Okko and Will Van Gerpen and daughter Lillian, Avon, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. de Vaul, Rock Rapids and Barkley of Sioux Falls." (Obituary found in family papers, unknown newspaper source)
