Memorial services were 11 a.m. on February 6, 2007, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, with the Rev. Rick Johnson officiating. Graveside services were 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery at George. Rose Beth Veenker was born Feb. 24, 1908, on the family farm near George, the fifth of nine children to Ralph and Fannie (Casjens) Veenker. She attended George Public School and graduated in 1925 from George High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College at the Cherokee, Iowa, campus that summer and received her teaching certificate. She taught country school at Grant Central School in rural Lyon County, Iowa, until her marriage in June 1934 to Alfred H. Meester of George. They had four children. Rose stayed home to take care of the children until the untimely death of Alfred in 1949. At that time, she took over the family restaurant and managed Meester's Cafe until her retirement in 1968. She moved to Ridgewood Apartments in Akron in 1989. Rose was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George for many years. She enjoyed quilting, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. She really enjoyed coffee time at Ridgewood. Survivors include her son, Stanley Meester and his wife, Lovelle of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon Heitritter of Boyden, Iowa, and Barbara Johnson of Akron; grandsons, Martin Meester and Jason Meester of Minneapolis, Minn., Steve Heitritter and his wife, Laura of Boyden, Keith Heitritter of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Joel Heitritter and his wife, Connie of Hull, Iowa, and Philip Johnson and his wife, Meghan of Ypsilanti, Mich.; granddaughters, Vonda Skow and her husband, Joe of Minneapolis, Laura Anton and her husband, Mark of Minneapolis, Heather and her fiance, Leon Costello of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Nicole Geopfert and her husband, Travis of Cedar Falls; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, C. Harold Veenker and his wife, Betty of West Lafayette, Ind.; a sister, Irene Veenker of Auburn, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Patricia; three sisters; and three brothers.
