He attended grade and high... Read More	Ralph Dewey Grosbach was born on May 6, 1898, in Wauneta, Nebraska. His father, Harry, was 34 and his mother, Rosella, was 34. He was one of the early residents of Chase County and passed away on September 30, 1978 after a brief illness. He was born in Wauneta less than 12 years after Chase County was organized. For many years he was actively involved in farming and ranching in the area where Enders Lake is now located. He was the young child of pioneers Dr. and Mrs. H.H. Grosbach. He attended grade and high school at Wauneta and graduated from the agricultural school at Curtis, Nebraska. He was a charter member of the first boy scout troop in western Nebraska. After his schooling, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on 10/5/1918, and served until 12/10/1918. He married his life partner of 57 years, Minta E. Speer of Logan, Kansas on 2/16/1921. They settled in Chase County Nebraska where they raised cattle and farmed on 4,000 acres. They both loved to hunt and fish. They had four children during their marriage (Maxine, Gladys, Ronald and Donald). The Grosbachs lived on a farm east of Wauneta a short time and then moved to their ranch near Enders. In the Enders area, he was knitted into the business interests of the community, serving as director of the First State Bank for many years. He was also a director of the Farmers Co-operative Supply of Enders. He was a member of Purity Lodge # 198 A.F. and A.M. for many years. He became a member of the Wauneta Methodist Church on 1/15/1911. He retired from ranching and moved to Imperial in 1949 after the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation claimed a large portion of his bottom land to build Enders Dam. They vacated their home on the farm and moved to Imperial Nebraska. He was active in his retirement years, planting black walnuts on public land along the Frenchman River near Enders. At the age of 73, he took up bowling , gardening and oil painting. His family lovingly called him "Grandpa Moses". He spent his retirement winters living in Corpus Christi Texas, spending his days fishing (although he did not like to eat fish). He died on September 30, 1978, in Imperial, Nebraska, at the age of 80, and was buried in Wauneta, Nebraska at Riverside Cemetery. He was a charter member of the Chase County Historical Society and served as a director. History was important to him. He was survived by his widow, Minta, two daughters, Maxine Gennaro of Tolono Illinois and Gladys Hoff of Imperial Nebraska, twin sons, Ronald and Donald, two sons-in-law, Vincent Gennaro and Dwight Hoff and two daughters-in-law, Alberta and Pauline Grosbach; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister. Services were held on 10/3/1978 at the United Methodist Church of Imperial with the Reverend Robert Call officiating. Escorts were Karl Hoff, Duane Grosbach, Lyle Grosbach, Dale Grosbach, Norman Grosbach and Roy Grosbach. Interment was at the Wauneta Riverside Cemetery of Wauneta.
