Description	:	Ralph Elmer "Moes" Greenwood, a longtime Wenatchee Valley resident and orchardist, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999 at his home at the age of 90. He was born Dec. 19, 1908 in Mansfield to William and Sarah (Eller) Greenwood. At the age of 20 Ralph moved to Wenatchee to purchase the land on Western Avenue where he had lived until his passing. He planted cherries and peaches. In 1935 Ralph married Erma Woods in Wenatchee. They had four children, Bonnie, Jerry, Bill and Rita. Erma passed away in 1949. He was born Dec. 19, 1908 in Mansfield to William and Sarah (Eller) Greenwood. At the age of 20 Ralph moved to Wenatchee to purchase the land on Western Avenue where he had lived until his passing. He planted cherries and peaches. In 1935 Ralph married Erma Woods in Wenatchee. They had four children, Bonnie, Jerry, Bill and Rita. Erma passed away in 1949. Ralph was the president and instrumental in the organization of Westside Growers on Poplar Avenue. He and several local orchardists grew, stored, packed, sold and shipped all of their own fruit. Westside Growers was one of the first independent warehouses in the valley. In 1962 Ralph married Betty Quigley in Wenatchee. Betty brought to the family home six daughters that Ralph adopted as his own. Ralph's interests outside of orcharding and gardening were hunting, fishing and he loved to go on camping trips and oyster and clam digging trips. Ralph was loved by many in the community besides his large family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always happy, joyful and full of wisdom. All of the grandchildren loved to visit "Grandpa Ralph" because he always had the time to tell them about the "good old days" and how he walked five miles to school and back. Ralph gave of himself in another special way. Each year he would anticipate great things and laughter by dressing up in his red suit and beard to go from home to home, rest home to rest home, hospital room to room and share his great laugh and spirit to anyone he felt needed some cheer. Ralph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Bonnie Blackburn of Cashmere and Rita Baugh of East Wenatchee; two sons, Jerry and William Greenwood, both of Wenatchee; stepchildren, Juanita Greenwood of Leavenworth, Linda Stirn of Kauai, HI, Debra Largent of Rock Island, Shauna Shaw of East Wenatchee, Shelly Ehrenberg of Wenatchee, Sheryl Sanford of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Sue Preston of California; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 1999 at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with President Wayne Lewis officiating. Services will conclude in the chapel. There will be a private family burial at Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society.
