A funeral was Sunday, Jan. 18, in the Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial in the Yarborough Cemetery, Coward. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Faye, and brothers, Alton, Edward, William, and a sister, Shirley Johnson. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Faye, and brothers, Alton, Edward, William, and a sister, Shirley Johnson. Born June 2, 1928, in Coward, Mr. Miles was one of nine children born to Benjamin and Hester Miles. Mr. Miles' varied careers included mechanic, machinist, photographer, and for 18 years, he served as Director of Plant Operations at Lake City Community Hospital (formerly Lower Florence County Hospital). Since the early '60s Mr. Miles was a member of the Lake City Pentecostal Church, where he was active in the Men's Bible Class and served as a Deacon. Since 1953, he was a volunteer firefighter with the Lake City Fire Department retiring as a Captain. Mr. Miles was also a member of the American Legion and the Christian Motorcycle Association. He was a veteran of the army having served in the occupied forces in Japan. Surviving are his wife of 61 years of Lake City, four daughters of Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Easley, and Effingham; two sisters of Raleigh, N.C., and Florence; a brother of Summerville; eight grandchildren of Pamplico, Coward, Florence, Lexington, Ringgold, GA, Atlanta, GA, Bethesda, MD, and Columbia; and 12 great-grandchildren, .
