Description	:	Ralph H. Viets, 79, husband of Sally Viets, passed away on Saturday, (January 12, 2002) at a local convalescent home. Born on August 31, 1922, he was the son of the late Leon H. and Grace V. (Marks) Viets. He was a lifetime resident of East Granby, a businessman, and a livestock dealer of L.H. Viets & Sons, a partnership he had with his father, L.H. Viets, Sr. and brother, William J. Viets since 1946. Viets, 79, husband of Sally Viets, passed away on Saturday, (January 12, 2002) at a local convalescent home. Born on August 31, 1922, he was the son of the late Leon H. and Grace V. (Marks) Viets. He was a lifetime resident of East Granby, a businessman, and a livestock dealer of L.H. Viets & Sons, a partnership he had with his father, L.H. Viets, Sr. and brother, William J. Viets since 1946. During his tenure with the farm, he traveled extensively on business, purchasing cattle in Canada, Vermont, New York State, Massachusetts and Maine. He was a member of St. Mark's Lodge #91, Granby, president of the Livestock Dealers of Connecticut for over 25 years, and vice president for a number of years of the Connecticut Milk Producers Association, C.M.P.A. Presently, he was vice president and director of the Bloomfield Farmer's Exchange. He served on the Advisory Board for the Simsbury Bank, Granby office. A parishioner of the East Granby Congregational Church, he was a lifetime member and past president. He also served on the Board of Trustees, was a co-chairman of the Church Building Fund Drive and was a deacon for many years. As a lifetime resident of East Granby, he was a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept., he served on the Board of Tax Review, and was a charter member of the Friendship Club of East Granby for over 40 years. Ralph was also appointed to a town commission, which studied the feasibility of the town changing its government to a town manager or retaining the Board of Selectman government. As a member of one of the oldest families in East Granby, he was a lifetime member of the East Granby Historical Society, a member and chairman of the East Granby Cemetery Association, and served on a committee to assist in writing the history of East Granby. The book was finally published in 1983 and took over ten years to complete. In addition to his loving wife of over 58 years, he leaves two sons, Alan B. Viets and his wife Anki, and grandchildren, Christopher and John Viets of Naples, FL; Daniel P. Viets and his wife JoLinda, and grandchildren, Nathan D. and his wife Lauren (Bator) Viets of Chicago, IL, and Rebecca A. Viets and her husband Russell Duncan of Fairhaven, WA; and a daughter, Susan A. Viets of Palm Springs, CA; a brother, Leon "Mike" H. Viets and his wife Lois of East Granby; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Viets also of East Granby. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and William J. Viets; and a sister, Ruth Viets Munsell. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, January 26, 10 a.m., at East Granby Congregational Church with the Rev. Alan Buttaro officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby, at the convenience of the family. His family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 3-6 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby.
