Description	:	Sally (Packard) Viets, 88, of East Granby, beloved wife for 58 years of the late Ralph H. Viets, passed away on Friday June 8, 2012. Born in Houlton, ME on January 14, 1924, daughter of the late Thomas and Annie (Houdlette) Packard, she was raised in Houlton, ME and was a graduate of Houlton High School. Read More	Sally (Packard) Viets, 88, of East Granby, beloved wife for 58 years of the late Ralph H. Viets, passed away on Friday June 8, 2012. Born in Houlton, ME on January 14, 1924, daughter of the late Thomas and Annie (Houdlette) Packard, she was raised in Houlton, ME and was a graduate of Houlton High School. A veteran of World War II, Sally served in the Women's Army Air Corps (WAAC) and was honorably discharged at the conclusion of the war. After marrying Ralph Viets on October 24, 1943, Sally moved to East Granby and worked with her husband and brother-in-law as a bookkeeper at L.H. Viets and Sons until their retirement in 1979. She was a member of East Granby Congregational Church and had served as a Deaconess, as the Memorial Committee Chairperson, as a member of the choir, and as a Sunday School teacher. Sally was also very active in her children's activities as they were growing up in East Granby. She served on the East Granby Board of Education for five years, she was 4-H Leader, a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, and a camp counselor. A longtime resident of East Granby, she was a life member of the Society of Mayflower Decedents, a life member of the East Granby Historical Society, a past member of the Turkey Hill Study Club, a charter member of the Friendship Club, and a member of the "Granbees" quilting group. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband on business and for pleasure, and spending time with her family. She leaves two sons, Alan B. Viets and his wife Ankie of Naples, FL and Daniel P. Viets and his wife JoLinda of Bloomfield; a daughter, Susan Ann Viets of Palm Springs, CA; four grandchildren, Christopher J. Viets and John Viets both of Naples, FL, Nathan D. Viets and his wife Lauren (Bator) Viets of Vernon Hills, IL, and Rebecca Ann Viets of Bellingham, WA; five great grandchildren, Josephine, Jack, Ella, Ruby, and Lila; and a sister-in-law, Winnie Packard of Naples, FL. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Putnam Packard, Jr. and Joseph L. Packard; and two sisters, Patricia Packard and Priscilla (Packard) Deveno. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 11 a.m., at the East Granby Congregational Church, 9 Rainbow Rd., East Granby, with the Rev. Denise Terry officiating. Burial will be private in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby. Sally's family has requested that memorial donations be made to the East Granby Congregational Church, P.O. Box 390, East Granby, CT 06026 or to the East Granby Library Fund, P.O. Box G, East Granby, CT 06026. Carmon Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
