James Ralph Matthews married Emma Rose (Parizek) Timmerman on July 24, 1912, in Iowa City, Iowa. On that marriage record, he stated that he was born in Fulton County, Illinois. James Ralph Matthews married Florence (Hendren) McClung on January 1, 1931, in Bloomfield, Iowa. On that marriage record, he showed his birth place as Lewistown, Illinois. When he completed his World War II Draft Registration, James wrote on the card that he was born in Fulton County, Illinois. --------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Daily Courier," Monday, March 26, 1956, Page 17: Ralph J. Matthews, 71, of 113 Grand avenue, died at 8 p.m. Saturday at Alma's nursing home, 337 North Hancock street. The son of John and Emma Matthews, he was born September 30, 1884, in Ottumwa. Surviving are his wife, Florence; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Dusing of Ottumwa and Mrs. E.F. Jacobs of Sigourney; three stepdaughters, Mrs. John Newman of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Richard Moureau of Ottumwa and Mrs. D.A. Flammia of Raleigh, N.C., and four grandchildren. The body was removed from the Newman funeral home in Oskaloosa to the Johnson funeral chapel at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, in charge of the Rev. Paul M. Hann, D.D., pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Long, Gene Long, Dwain Matthews, Clifford Matthews, Robert Dusing and Richard Moureau.
