News Banner - Tuesday, February 4, 1986 Ralph Lockwood, 80, Former Road Superintendent, Dies Former Wells County Highway Department superintendent Ralph Lockwood,80, of 1941S No Number Rd., Bluffton, died at 10:30 a.m. today at Clinic Hospital, where he had been admitted Jan. 29. He had been in failing health two years and death was due to heart failure and emphysema. Mr. Lockwood, who retired from the highway post in 1967, had farmed in the Petroleum area for many years. A former employee of the Meshberger Brothers Stone Co., he had also been a salesman for the former Flaningam and Son Implement Co. and Moser Implement Co. During his retirement years, Mr. Lockwood had been working as a salesman for the Novelty Advertising Co. of Coshocton, Ohio. His memberships included the Petroleum United Methodist Church, of which he was a past Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and the Pennville Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of the Petroleum Lions Club. Born June 24, 1905, in Wells County, he was a son of J. P. and Hepsey Stevens Lockwood. His marriage to Grace Higgins, who survives, took place Dec. 18, 1924, at Portland. Surviving in addition to the wife, are two sons, Gene D. Lockwood of Auburn and Richard Lockwood of rural Bluffton; a sister, Mrs. Grace Mounsey of rural Poneto; two brothers, Ross Lockwood of the Cooper Care Center and Lawrence Lockwood of Bluffton, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A son, Joe N. Lockwood, died in 1971. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Thoma-Rich Funeral Home, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Rev. Barry McCune will officiate and burial will be in the Stahl Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Petroleum United Methodist Church. ------------------ Bluffton, IN.
