He was born on June 26,1913 in Cherokee to Logan R. and Mabel Mastin Patterson. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1933 and attended the Cherokee Junior College. He was married to Martha Phipps on Feb. 14, 1937 in Cherokee. He had been a resident of Cherokee County all his life. He farmed and raised cattle until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of the Saddle Club, the Sanford Museum Association, the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, was a former longtime member of the Cherokee County Fair Board, helped start the first Cherokee Rural Fire Truck and served on the Cherokee Rural Fire Board for many years, and was one of the founders of the Cherokee County Cavaliers. He was active in many other civic functions of the Cherokee area. He is survived by his wife, Martha; two daughters, and their husbands, Frances J. "Mickey" and Gerald Conley of Cherokee and Margaret and Roger Woltman of Cherokee; two sons and their wives, Mark A. and Becky Patterson of Cherokee and Logan A. and Tamara Patterson of Cherokee; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Archie Patterson of Moberly, Mo., and Mrs. Marion (Mary) Robb of Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Thomas A. Patterson, and two brothers, James and Wilbur Patterson.
