When he came in contact with a highly charged electric wire, on Asbury Avenue late Tuesday night, Ralph McCready, Construction foremen for the local electric plant, was instantly killed. The tragic accident occurred in the presence of several witnesses, who were powerless to aid the unfortunate man until death had resulted. Crisfield and vicinity were visited by a heavy electric storm Tuesday night, and after the storm it was reported that one of the electric lighting wires was down, in the Lawsonia section, just opposite the home of Mr. Elwood Sterling. Mr. McCready and another lineman were sent there to repair the break in the line. Arriving at the point where the line was broken, Mr. McCready had secured the end of a wire and was working on it, when he walked into another highly charged wire dangling to the road, which he did not see. In an instant this wire had wrapped itself about him and he was unable to escape its fatal clutches. He called for help once or twice and then fell to the ground, and in another instant was dead. The electric current was cut-off as soon as word could be telephoned to the plant, and Mr. McCready was extricated from the wire. For several hours efforts were made to resuscitate him, but without avail. Mr. McCready was 39 years of age and a son of T. Sidney McCready. He was born and raised in Crisfield, and was a veteran of the late war. He was a young man of high character, of kindly disposition and scrupulous honesty, and was held in the highest esteem by the entire community. His tragic death came as a terrible shock to all who knew him. Mr. McCready was married, and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dollie McCready, as well as his father, T. Sidney McCready. The deceased was a member of Immanuel M. E. church, and funeral services were held from that church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. John J. Bunting, yesterday (Friday) afternoon. Interment was in Asbury cemetery. Mr. McCready was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Odd Fellows, the Jr. O. U. A. M., and the American Legion, and all of those organizations attended the funeral and participated in the burial exercises.
