He was born June 14, 1906, in Bunker Hill, IL and was reared by his grandparents, Isom and Mary Sawyer in Litchfield, IL. A resident Wapello County since 1933, he was employed by John Deere Ottumwa Works. He retired April 30, 199, as supervisor of the tool room with 34 years of service. He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert C Francis of Ottumwa; two daughters, Linda Rush of Encinitas, CA, and Carole Proctor of Iowa City; three stepsons, Mickey Hucks of Ottumwa, Orville Hucks of Davenport and Denny Hucks of Gillette, WY; five stepdaughters, Jackie Pickerell, Effie Parcel, Sheila Jameson and Darlene Johnson of Ottumwa, and Peggy Jones of Davenport; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 35 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille Grinstead, and a stepdaughter, Marilyn Brown. The service will be 2 pm Tuesday at Shrine of Memories Funeral Home, the Rev Gene Willcut, a missionary from Mexico, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Monday. A memorial has been established to the Respiratory Therapy Department at St Joseph Health and Rehabilitation Center.
