Ralph taught English to new Canadians at Conestoga College for over 20 years and was well respected by his adult students, many of whom stayed in touch with him over the years. He was a deeply intelligent and thoughtful man, well known for his support and generosity to the less fortunate and his kindness and love of animals. Ralph leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Constance Loreen (Adams) Haldenby, a writer and poet, well known for her memoirs of growing up in Newfoundland as well as a son William (Bill) Haldenby and wife Kay, daughter Constance (Connie) Lacy and husband Larry and five grandchildren, Christopher, Kayle, Joshua, Robert and Meaghan. He will be deeply missed by his family and many others who knew him. Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Methodists or the Scott Mission. A tree will be planted in memory of Ralph N. Haldenby in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.
