Ralph Glattfelder Residents of the Floris Community mourn the death of Ralph Glattfelder. He was born on a farm near Troy on June 23, 1891, the son of Fred and Catharine Glattfelder. As a young man he became a member of the Baptist church of Rabbit Ridge, near Troy. On June 23, 1937, he and Clara Osing of Eldon joined hands in marriage. Their married life was one of sweet companionship. Its blessed memories will linger with the wife until death shall again unite them. They lived on a farm between Eldon and Selma until moving to their present home a mile and a half south of Floris. Most of his life was spent as a farmer in Davis county. He was the first Davis county soldier to be called to serve in World War I. At one time he operated a store at Chequest, south of Floris. Recently he served as postmaster at Floris. Ralph Glattfelder died at 8:30 a.m. of a heart attack. He was 58 years old. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters and a son by a former marriage. They are: Mrs. Harold Linden of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Earl Randall, Miss Marguerite Glattfelder and Kenneth Glattfelder of Ottumwa, and three grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Barker of near Troy and a brother, Willie, preceded him in death. In every community in which he has lived he has bee a good neighbor, and was among the first to aid where misfortune had come.
