Description	:	Ralph W. Drewis, 89, of rural Sumner, Iowa, died Monday morning, April 10, 2006 at the Sumner Memorial Hospital from natural causes. He was born on December 12, 1916 in Tripoli, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Emma (Kuhrt) Drewis. He attended school in Tripoli, and he graduated in 1936 from the Tripoli High School. Drewis, 89, of rural Sumner, Iowa, died Monday morning, April 10, 2006 at the Sumner Memorial Hospital from natural causes. He was born on December 12, 1916 in Tripoli, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Emma (Kuhrt) Drewis. He attended school in Tripoli, and he graduated in 1936 from the Tripoli High School. During high school he played on the basketball team and to this day he claimed to have invented the jump shot. In 1938 he purchased a Standard Oil bulk oil franchise which he owned and operated for the next twenty-five years. On June 1, 1941 he was united in marriage to Renetta D. Hildebrandt at St. John's Evangelical & Reformed Church, Siegel, rural Waverly. The couple made their home on the farm of Renetta's parents for the next two years before purchasing their farm 2 miles east of Frederika. Ralph retired from the bulk oil business in 1965, but continued to farm until 1976 when the couple discontinued farming and rented out their land. Ralph and Renetta were married for 46 years before her death on September 12, 1987. Ralph had continued to live in their home ever since. Ralph was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Siegel where he was very active with the men's fellowship and enjoyed playing on the Dart Ball Team. He enjoyed music, and he and Renetta loved to dance to all types of music from Elvis, to Lawrence Welk, to Country-Western. He enjoyed his community and neighborhood, serving as a County Trustee for many years as well as a member of the Frederika Fire Department for over 50 year. Ralph was also invloved with the Butler-Bremer REC and the Tripoli Commercial Club. His love for basketball was as strong as ever, being a faithful Iowa Hawkeye fan. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from his family, and times they all shared together. Ralph is survived by his two children, Ruth (George) Daly of Plymouth, MN, Roy (Carole) Drewis of Cedar Falls, IA: seven grandchildren, Amy (David) Ose of McCallsburg, IA, Kendra Drewis of Chicago, ILL, Jennifer Patterson of Croatia, Phil Drewis of Cedar Falls, IA, Barb (Scott) Kuehl of Woodward, IA, Sue (Kacy) Frantum of Ogden, IA, Deb (Tony) Santi of Granger, Iowa: 12 great grandchildren; Ashley, Jayden & Kimora Patterson, Jessica, Spencer & Tristan Frantum, Sarah, Blake, Emily & Faith Kuehl, Reghan & Tory Santi. He is also survived by two sisters, Delores Marlow of Waterloo, and Dorothy (Lee) Harris of Genoa, WI, numerous nieces, nephews and their families and by his many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Renetta; six sisters, Norma Schrader, Geneva Kerr, Ruth Drewis, Lois Schilling, Blanche Sievers, Jeanette Harris; and by four brothers, Randy, Erwin, Roland and Fred. Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Siegel, rural Waverly, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home, Waverly. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the services.
