Born May 23, 1930, in Washington County, he was the son of the late William Ivan and Mary Hanna Beckley Shank. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Shank, in 1996. He was the owner of Palmyra Farms. He was a life member of Salem Reformed United Church of Christ, where he served as past Sunday school secretary and consistory president. He was a member and past president of Maryland and National Ayrshire Breeders Association; a director for Central Maryland Farm Credit; state president and director of Sire Power Inc.; director and state president of Dairy Herd Improvement; past president of Maryland Purebred Dairy Cattle Association; 4-H All-Star; member of the Farm Bureau; Southern States Cooperative and was inducted into Maryland Dairy Shrine. He also was a member of Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Shank Creek of Hagerstown; a son, Ralph W. Shank Jr. of Hagerstown; a sister, A. Geneva Clark of Clear Spring; a brother, John S. Shank of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert M. Shank. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Sharon L. Forbes and Ira Bruce Barr will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Reformed Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, Western Maryland Chapter, 10109 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, MD 21740; Washington County Agriculture Education Center, 7313 Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713; or Maryland 4-H Foundation Dairy Judging.
