In attempting to hurry the fire in the kitchen range for the preparation of the evening meal Mrs. Fehl poured kerosene out of a can into the stove and the blaze caused the can to explode, throwing the burning oil all over her. She ran into the yard screaming for help and the men working at the barn rushed to her assistance and succeeded in putting out the flames but not until she was horribly burned. She was carried to the house and a physician and nurse secured. Everything possible was done to relieve her terrible suffering and only those who realize the agony through which she passed before death relieved her. Ramona Jenks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jenks, was born in Mt. Auburn, September 6, 1903, and died at her home near Vinton, October 13, 1922, being but nineteen years old. She moved to La Porte City with her parents a few years ago and attended the local school. She was married to Lawrence Fehl on December 29, 1920 and for a time they lived with Mr. Fehl's parents in Spring Creek Township but last spring moved to the Robert Mack farm northwest of Vinton. Besides the young husband and infant daughter, the deceased is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jenks, one brother, Clyde Jenks, and two sisters, Zola and Opal Jenks. The remains were brought to the Jenks home here, Saturday, and funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock. Rev. G. C. Lusted officiating. The church was filled with friends, many of who came from Mt. Auburn and the surrounding community. Interment was made in the West View cemetery.
