Freeman, the daughter of George Harold and Veda Kampe Johnson, was born July 28, 1928 at Essex, Iowa and passed away on August 7, 1998 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Born and raised in Essex, Ramona attended school at Essex and graduated from Essex High School in 1945. She attended one year of college at Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville, Missouri. On August 3, 1947, Ramona was united in marriage to Wendell Freman at the Presbyterian Church in Essex. After college she taught country school for one year. Following teaching, she went to work in the family grocery business with her father and brother. She serves as Executive Director of Low Rent Housing in Essex for 20 years, retiring after her illness. Ramona was a member of Presbyterian Church in Essex, the Women's Circle, The American Legion Auxilary, and the 20th Century Club. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher. Ramona loved to be around people and was known for her great sense of humor. She also enjoyed playing bridge and liked to travel and sightsee. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in athletic events. Preceding Ramona in death were her daughter, Vicki Sue; parents George H. and Veda Kampe Johnson; a brother, George J. Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Wendell Freeman of Essex; her daughter, Connie Anderson of Clearwater, Florida; three grandchildren, Tobin Anderson of Syracuse, New York, Tucker Anderson of Tampa, Florida, and Sarah Anderson of New York, New York; two sister-in-law, Barbara Johnson-Dragicevic and husband Steve of Mesa, Arizona, and Gloria McCain and husband, Rev, Raymond McCain of Rockford, Illinois; other relatives and numerous friends.
