Randall Lee "Randy" was born July 19, 1949, in Hull, the son of Melvin A. and Viola M. (Ten Haken) Van Schepen. He was raised in Hull, where he attended Hull Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School. As a teenager, he was a delegate to the American Legion's Boys State. As a young man, he enjoyed working on the farm of his great-uncle, Willis Ten Haken. He also served in the Air National Guard. He then drove a truck for Visser Feed and later became a partner in Van Schepen Oil, both in Hull. On Oct. 17, 1969, he married Arlene F. Roskam in Hull, where they continued to make their home. Later, he was a truck driver for K-Products in Orange City, Iowa, for 15 years and for Roskam Trucking for four years. In 1995, they founded their own trucking business, RVS Inc. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where the couple participated in the Couples Fellowship. He befriended many people across the nation in his personal and professional life, serving as an example of the faithful Christian. He enjoyed fishing, camping and the company of friends, but especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of more than 35 years; three children, Sherri, Joel, and Nicole; six grandchildren; his parents, "Charlie" and "Vi"; a grandmother, Fanny Ten Haken; a brother, Eldon; his wife's parents, Gerrit and Emma Roskam, Iowa; his wife's four brothers, a sister, Ron, Dave, Jeff, Gloria and Gary and Al; his wife's foster sister, Darlene; two Van Schepen nephews, Michael and Nicholas; and 18 Roskam nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chris and Johanna Van Schepen and John Ten Haken.
