Description	:	Ray E. Christensen, 88, of Fremont died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Nye Legacy in Fremont. Ray was born Jan. 1, 1922, on a farm near Chappell to Ed C. and Louise (Jacobsen) Christensen. He moved with his parents and siblings to the Fremont area at an early age. Ray attended Fremont and Rosedale schools. He married Alice L. Ray was born Jan. 1, 1922, on a farm near Chappell to Ed C. and Louise (Jacobsen) Christensen. He moved with his parents and siblings to the Fremont area at an early age. Ray attended Fremont and Rosedale schools. He married Alice L. Rahlfs on April 17, 1950, at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Ray retired after 34 years from Hormel Foods. He also kept an active interest in wheat farming and baseball. He was a former Little League coach, a pitcher for the Chappell Club team of Nebraska and also Nickerson's club in the 1940s. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont. He loved his children, grandchildren and a new great-grandson, and was proud of them. Survivors are: his wife, Alice; daughter, Sheryl (David) Melick of Madison; son, Randal (Janis) Christensen of Sammamish, Wash.; grandchildren, Julie (Nicholas) Zrust, Jeffrey Melick and Ryan Christensen; great-grandson, Neil Zrust; brothers, Emmett and Allen Christensen of Fremont, Rudy Christensen of Hooper and Henry (Lorrie) Christensen of Big Springs; sister, Edith Stuenkel of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Larsen and Ethel Christensen; and 11 brothers, Edward, Elwood, Sterling, Seymore, Glenn, Manley, Gilbert, Harvey, Paul, Warren and Ervin. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont with the Revs. Michael McGregor and Greg Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church and Cancer Research Fund.
