Description	:	Ray “Babe” Knaup Sr, 95, of Frontenac, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001 at his home. He was born July 21, 1906 in Corona to Henry and Jessie Knaup. He was an area resident all his life. On May 23, 1923, he married Elizabeth Harvey at Carthage, MO. She preceded him in death in 1955. He worked for the United Mine Works and as a coal miner. He later worked for PSU before retiring. He was born July 21, 1906 in Corona to Henry and Jessie Knaup. He was an area resident all his life. On May 23, 1923, he married Elizabeth Harvey at Carthage, MO. She preceded him in death in 1955. He worked for the United Mine Works and as a coal miner. He later worked for PSU before retiring. Mr. Knaup was a well known professional boxer locally as well as in Tulsa, Kansas City, and Chicago. Survivors include his son Raymond R. Knaup of Frontenac; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Merlin Knaup; five brothers, Charles, Fred, Bill, Oscar, and James; and three sisters, Leona Battitori, Millie Laidler, and Lizzie Bussone. Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, Aug. 25 at Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay St., Frontenac with Rev. Carl Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Pittsburg. Informal visitation will be from 9 am until 9 pm Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call after 9 am at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Ray and Joan Knaup, 409 W. Leighton St., Frontenac. Arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E.
