Born in Gaffney, he was the beloved husband for 48 years of the late Betty Simmons Mabry and the son of the late James B. Mabry and Carrie Baines Mabry. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Robinson Business College. He was a United States Marine, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was the owner and manager of Mabry & Powell’s Gulf Station and was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Mabry was a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church since 1951, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Deacon Emeritus. He is survived by two sons, Ray Simmons Mabry of Gaffney and David B. Mabry of Spartanburg; a daughter, Carol J. Mabry of Spartanburg; a sister, Alda Mabry Osment; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Mabry was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ada, his loving and faithful caregiver. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at his residence, 303 Forest Lane Drive. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Gardens with Dr. Clyde Thomas and Father Rob Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1449, Gaffney, SC, 29342 or Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC, 29342.
