Description	:	Funeral services for Ray S. Linderer, age 86, of Watertown, SD, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010, in St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Watertown. Rev. Military honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team – SD Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be: Zach Anderson, Chris Anderson, Jerry Hackbart, James Linderer, Allen Stark, and Kevin Kannas. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown and in the church on Monday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 1:00 p.m. for a prayer service. Ray was born on November 9, 1924, on a farm north of Watertown in Codington County, SD, to William and Henrietta (Everding) Linderer. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rauville, SD, and confirmed at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. He attended rural school. Ray worked on the family farm and surrounding farms until he was employed at Hubbards Car and Tractor. In 1945, he enlisted in the US Army at Fort Snelling, MN. He served one year and then re-enlisted to the BTRY-A-55 AARTBN at Fort Bliss, TX. Ray was honorably discharged November 30, 1946, with the rank of Sergeant. He then returned home. On February 28, 1946, Ray married June Kannas at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rauville. They lived on a farm near Florence, SD, for a short time and then moved into Watertown. Ray worked at Swifts and Hubbards and then as a mechanic at the Buick dealership in downtown Watertown. He had an amazing knack for fixing vehicles and many people valued his opinion on buying a car. Ray was always there for his family and friends. He could fix literally anything on wheels and never asked for anything in return. He was loved by his family. Ray was known for his passion for duck and goose hunting. He shared his passion with his grandchildren, teaching them to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife, June, of Watertown, SD, one daughter, Cheryl (Kai) Anderson ,of Three Forks, MT; two grandchildren: Zach (Hannie) Anderson and Chris (Shellie) Anderson, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Anderson, all of Three Forks, MT; one brother, Herb Linderer, of Watertown, SD; two brothers-in-law, Marlyn (Donna) Kannas and Norman (Valeria) Kannas all of Watertown, SD; and three sisters-in-law: Lucille Kannas, Delores Stark, and Arlone Kannas all of Watertown, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters.
