Dugas, 65, Concordia, died early Sunday at Asbury hospital, where he was admitted following a Thursday afternoon wreck on Broadway Boulevard. He reportedly became paralyzed from the waist down in the aftermath of the accident. Preliminary results of an autopsy performed Sunday indicated cause of death as a blood clot which had formed in the aorta, the main artery leaving the heart. Preliminary results of an autopsy performed Sunday indicated cause of death as a blood clot which had formed in the aorta, the main artery leaving the heart. Doctors said the aortic blockage could account for the paralysis. Police are listing the death as Salina's first traffic fatality of 1974. Police arrived at the scene of the accident to find the victim still inside his van truck, which apparently had skidded on ice and hit a power pole. He was complaining of chest pains. He told police he had been struck from behind by another vehicle. Mr. Dugas was born Aug. 20, 1908, at Aurora. He was a custodian for the Concordia school district, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Concordia, and the Concordia VFW post. Surviving are the widow, Ruth, and a son, David, both of the home; a brother, Alphonse, Camas, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Lucinda Rhine, Haddam. The funeral will be at 2 pm Wednesday at the Chaput funeral home, Concordia, the Rev. Loren Werth officiating. Burial will be in the VFW plot of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Friends may call at the funeral home.
