Raymond Benning was born on Oct 23, 1913, the son of Adolph and Melinda Bahnsen Benning in rural Calamus. He attended rural school and Calamus High School. He married Velma Bruske in Davenport on Sept 27, 1945. He worked most of his life at Harnischfeger in Cedar Rapids, and retired in 1976. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church and had served on the Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Benning is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Marlene Eichhorn of Marion and Mrs. Donna Gerst of Anamosa; one son, Gary Benning of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Bernice Hall of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents. Casketbearers were Dennis Carstensen, Raymond Dose, Clifford Dirks, Dale Gerst, John Wurst and Adra Lane.
