She was born on May 31, 1917 at Hartley, Iowa, the daughter of Karl and Ann Johansen Bruske and received her education at Wyoming. On September 27, 1945 she married Raymond Benning at Davenport, Iowa. The couple lived their entire married lives in Wyoming. Raymond died in 1983. Benning, age, 75, of Wyoming,Iowa, died Saturday, May 1, 1993 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born on May 31, 1917 at Hartley, Iowa, the daughter of Karl and Ann Johansen Bruske and received her education at Wyoming. On September 27, 1945 she married Raymond Benning at Davenport, Iowa. The couple lived their entire married lives in Wyoming. Raymond died in 1983. Velma was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church of Wyoming. She is survived by one son Gary of Geneseo, Illinois, one daughter Donna (Mrs. Edward) Gerst of Anamosa, Iowa, one step daughter Marlene (Mrs. Howard) Eichhorn of Marion, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters Ann Baer of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Hilda (Mrs. John) Cordes of DeForest, Wisconsin, and one brother Otto Bruske of Watertown, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, and two brothers. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 4, 1993 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion American Lutheran Church at Wyoming with burial in Wyoming Cemetery. Rev. David Guetzke officiated. Friends called Monday from 4-8:00 P.M. at the Hayden Funeral Home in Wyoming. Casket Bearers were Dennis Carstensen, Clifford Dirks, George Wessels, Dale Gerst, Jerry Gerst, and Alva Husmana.
