Read More	Raymond Carl Nitz was the first born child of Emil Henry Nitz and Erna Augusta Matilda (Radtke) Nitz, the only one of their children born in Akron, Ohio prior to the family moving to South Dakota. ******************************************************* Monday, July 27, 1998 Raymond Nitz HUDSON - Raymond Nitz, 86, of Hudson died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Mr. Nitz was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Akron, Ohio. The family moved to Salem, and later to Canova. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937, until moving to Hudson in 1939. He then worked as a mechanic for Harry Miller's Chrysler-Plymouth Garage and pitching for the Hudson's amateur baseball team. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from April of 1941 to November of 1945. He married Fern Torkelson on Dec. 29, 1948, at Sioux Falls. They lived in Hudson, where he continued to work for Harry Miller, until he began driving gravel truck in 1952. He also was manager of Hudson Liquor Store from 1971 to 1974. He was a member of Bergstrom-Boden Legion Post No. 128 of Hudson, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Canton, and Disabled American Veterans of Sioux Falls. In addition, to his wife he is survived by two sons, and a sister, Florence Miller of Middletown, Calif. Services are Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hudson Lutheran Church, Hudson, with burial in Eden Cemetery, Hudson. Visitation begins , with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, all at Porter Funeral Home in Hudson. ~ Sioux Falls Argus Leader ~
