He suffered from congestive heart failure.He was born May 17, 1925, in Elyria, the son of Dave and Emma Wedel Schrag. Read More	Raymond Eugene Schrag, 87, Inman, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Hutchinson Hospital. He suffered from congestive heart failure.He was born May 17, 1925, in Elyria, the son of Dave and Emma Wedel Schrag. The sixth of seven children, his early years were in Elyria, where his father owned two service stations. In 1936, at the height of the Dust Bowl, the family bought a farm north of Marquette. He graduated from Marquette High School, and after deciding to become a missionary enrolled in Kansas City Bible College. He graduated in 1949.On June 15, 1949, he married Mary Roselyn Chadd, of McPherson. They would raise seven children. In late 1950, Ray and Mary set sail for India on the RMS Queen Elizabeth, embarking on a 40-year career as missionaries with what was then called India Mission, based in Elyria, Ohio. For the first 10 years they were in a rural part of Maharashtra state, living without running water or electricity. They traveled to area villages by bicycle and a camper pulled by oxen, establishing churches.In 1960, they moved to Trimulgherry, a suburb of Hyderabad, where Ray assumed responsibilities as superintendent and secretary/treasurer of the mission until they retired. In 1991, they returned to the United States, and bought a house in Inman. They attended Medora Community Bible Church.Ray was a quiet man, self-effacing, scrupulously honest, unrelenting in thriftiness. He rarely discarded anything he could repair, and took pride in uncovering unconventional solutions to problems. He sought out auctions, reveling in acquiring the odds and ends others no longer valued.He was even more committed to the study of the Bible, and spent hours poring over concordances and Scriptures, exploring nuances and interpretations. In college he was first tenor in a quartet that represented Kansas City Bible College, in churches and on radio programs. He entertained becoming a singing evangelist but felt God wanted him to be a missionary.He is survived by Mary, of the home. Other survivors include a brother, Carl Schrag, Rose Hill; a sister, Mary Ann Bard, North Little Rock, Ark; three daughters, Grace Johnson and her husband, Jerry, Tecumseh, Neb., Faith Busenitz and her husband, Eldrid, Whitewater, and Joy Bartsch and her husband, Greg, Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Duane Schrag and his wife, Robin, Abilene; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by three sons, George Schrag, Moundridge, Virgil Schrag, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Maynard Schrag, Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters, Verna Zahlout, Cincinnati, Ohio, Viola Stucky, Moundridge, and Laura Jantz, Fresno, Calif.; and a brother, Wilbur Schrag, Marquette.Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Family Funeral Home, Newton; family will receive from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Marquette Cemetery, Marquette. A memorial service, Pastor Wayne Johnson presiding, will be at 4 p.m. at Medora Community Bible Church, followed by dinner.Memorials to Christar, PO Box 850357, Richardson, TX 75085.
