Description	:	MINDEN — Raymond George Ackerman, 82, of Minden died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be at Zion Luth-eran Cemetery west of Macon. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden. He was born Jan. 25, 1924, north of Macon to Arnold and Folla (Tjaden) Ackerman. On Aug. 24, 1947, he married Margaret Detlefs in Upland. Survivors include his wife; son, Clark of Minden; and daughter, Janet Rose of Kearney. Additional survivors include his daughter-in-law, Diane Ackerman of Minden; grandchildren, Abby (Rose) Martinez and her husband, Greg, of Wheaton, Ill., A.J. Rose of Kearney and Alex and Jaden Ackerman of Minden. He attended school in Macon until fifth grade, when he moved to Minden with his parents. He completed his education and graduated from Minden High School in 1942. While growing up, he helped his uncles on their farms. In Minden, he was a Boy Scout and had a variety of jobs. He worked at the Nichol Hotel, sold popcorn on the square, worked at the movie theater, was a mortician's helper, worked at Warp Publishing Co. and was a golf caddie. He and his mother moved to Upland in 1942, and he ran Ackerman Dairy and began farming in the Upland and Macon areas. He continued farming until he and his wife retired to Minden in 1998. He was active in Zion American Lutheran Church in Macon and Zion Lutheran Church in Upland and was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden. He served on the school board in Upland and Minden for 17 years. He was an avid reader. He and his wife loved traveling in the United States and Canada. He enjoyed his grandchildren, his family, his work, bowling, and serving churches and the communities he lived in. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Heye; and one grandson, Seth Rose. ©Kearney Hub 2006
