SKALBERG Raymond Howard Skalberg, son of Paul and Edith (Freeman) Skalberg, was born, December 5, 1917, at Essex, Iowa, and entered into rest, December 5, 1991, at Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa. He was 74. He attended country schools near Essex and began farming immediately. On April 15, 1941, Ray united in marriage to Rita Regan at Imogene, Iowa. SKALBERG Raymond Howard Skalberg, son of Paul and Edith (Freeman) Skalberg, was born, December 5, 1917, at Essex, Iowa, and entered into rest, December 5, 1991, at Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa. He was 74. He attended country schools near Essex and began farming immediately. On April 15, 1941, Ray united in marriage to Rita Regan at Imogene, Iowa. They farmed several years before moving to Corning, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Sunset Motel for many years. When they sold the motel, Ray began driving a school bus for the Corning Public Schools and continued this position as long as his health permitted. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning, and enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of his neighbors and many friends. He loved his home, working around the yard and being outdoors and particularly enjoyed the friends who met on a regular basis for their "coffee time." He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen Skalberg. Raymond is survived by his wife, Rita Skalberg of Corning, Iowa; one son, Donald Skalberg of Creston, Iowa; a brother Carroll Skalberg and his wife, Dorothy, of Shenandoah, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services for Mr. Skalberg were held Saturday, December 7, 1991, at 10 AM, from St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa. Father John Bertogli officiated the Mass. Ed Regan served as the lector for the service and Kathleen Cook provided organ music. Melody Miller was the cantor. Honorary casket bearers were Sue Ziegler, Mary Eggers, Jim Martin, Tom Hughes, Tony Eggers, Dick Jones, and Ed Regan. Casket Bearers were Randy Skalberg, Terry Regan, Mike Eggers, Jude Hughs, Keith James, and David Hughes. Interment took place at Mt.
