Read More	Rita Skalberg Date of Death: 12/27/2005 Rita Skalberg, daughter of Thomas and Bertha (Saner) Regan, was born on May 11, 1918, in rural Imogene, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 87. Her early life was spent in the Imogene area. Rita received her education from St. Patricks Academy in Imogene, graduating with the Class of 1935. On April 15, 1941, Rita was united in marriage to Raymond Skalberg at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Imogene. Following their marriage they farmed near Essex, Iowa. Rita taught school at Honey Creek country school for several years. In 1953, they moved to Walker, Minnesota, after buying a motel there. In 1955, following the purchase of the Sunset Motel, they moved to Corning, Iowa. Rita was instrumental in the everyday running of the motels. In 1993 after the death of Raymond, Rita moved to Shenandoah. Rita was active in the St. Marys Catholic Church, serving on the Altar Society. She loved to fish (but was known to never catch much) and play cards with family members. Rita was also a great bowler. Preceding Rita in death were her husband, Ray Skalberg; parents; four brothers, Mike, Thomas, Jerome and Edward Regan; and four sisters, Lucille Hughes, Helen Hughes, Margaret James and Gertrude Eggers. Survivors include her son, Donald Skalberg of Creston, Iowa; two brothers, Robert Doc Regan of Imogene, Iowa, and Kenneth Regan of Norfolk, Nebraska; one sister, Jean Martin of Carroll, Iowa; numerous loving nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial services were held Friday, December 30, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Celebrant was Rev. Vern Smith and lector was Ed Regan. Mary Beth Gowing played the organ and Jane Emge was the vocalist. Eucharistic Ministers were Kathy Regan, Jamie Regan and Jason Regan. Trish Regan and Rose Welchans attended the memory register. Altar servers were Madison and Alexis Saner. Ushers were Andy Regan and Jerry Regan. Casket bearers were Dan Kaiser, Jude Hughes, Terry Regan, Jim Martin, Kirk Hughes and Michael Regan. Interment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Imogene, Iowa. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.hackettlivingstfuneralhome.com.
