Lester, 80, of 228 S. Locust Ave., New Hampton. Mr. Lester died Saturday, Dec. 13, after an eight-month illness at Saint Joseph Community Hospital in New Hampton. Born on May 26, 1900 in Gibson. Raymond J. Lester was the son of Robert H. and Hettie Lester. He attended schools at Gibson in Keokuk County, northwest of Sigourney and at Palisade, Colo. A former resident of New Hampton from 1958 to [unreadable] he moved back to the city in 1978. A farmer, Mr. Lester was a district manager for [unreadable] Seed Corn Co. from [unreadable] and area supervisor [unreadable] Plant Food Co. from 1971-78. He married Vera Anderson of Goldfield on March 17, 1929 and they resided in Marathon shortly after. They then moved to Goldfield, New Hampton Sigourney, Waterloo and back to New Hampton. A member of the United Methodist Church, he was past treasurer of Christian Church, a council member for ten years, and president of the Creamery Board in Goldfield. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Kenneth and Donald of New Hampton, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one sister. Mrs. Zena Morton of Ft. Collins. Colo. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ina Holland, Hattie Lester, and Evelyn [Evalyn] Lester: two brothers, Harry and Floyd: and one grandson, David. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church and officiated by the Rev. Larry Hartley. Pall bearers were Ricky, Scott and Curtis Lester, James Flaherty, Michael Anderson, and Richard Becker. Larkin and Martin Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
