Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Raymond LeRoy Crook was born in Streator; La Salle County, Illinois on February 2, 1919, to Roy and Mertyl Crook. The family moved to Iowa when LeRoy was three weeks old. He attended country school through the eighth grade. LeRoy and Irene Crook were married April 24, 1940. LeRoy worked most of his early life on the farm. When he moved to Emmetsburg his first job was with Middleton's Lumber Yard. He then worked at the Emmetsburg Rendering Works for 18 years, and then to his most favorite job, the custodian for Emmetsburg Middle School. LeRoy was a "people" person and was constantly surrounded by his many friends while he worked there. He retired after more than 20 years of service with the school system, but stayed in constant touch with his many friends. LeRoy's biggest fear was that he might in some way hurt someone's feelings, anyone's, and that they may not like him. That never, ever happened. LeRoy and Irene Crook lived life to the fullest. They danced, they camped, they visited friends, they loved family throughout their lives together. Only until the last couple years did their lives slow down, but they still loved family and kept in contact with their many friends. Raymond LeRoy Crook, age 90, passed away on Monday; August 17, 2009, at the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife of 69 years: Irene. His son: Bill (Mary Jo) Crook of Cylinder; Palo Alto County, Iowa. His three grandchildren: Joleen Darwyn) Frideres. Ron (Lou Ann Crook and Linda (Brian) Garman. His six great grandchildren: Dillon, Mike, Tia, Chloe, Jade and Hana. Also many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. A special mention of a devoted neighbor, Sally Brennan, who was a constant vigil of the Crooks in their later years, bringing them goodies and conversation. They and his many friends and acquaintances will miss him. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday; August 20, 2009 at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:00 p.m. and a Parish Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services for LeRoy Crook will begin 10:30 a.m. on Friday; August 21, 2009 at the Holy Family Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Father Clem Currans will officiate. Interment will be at Saint John's Cemetery in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
