Gengler, 51, rural Cherokee, died Sunday at the St. Joseph Unit of the Marian Health Care Center in Sioux City after a seven-month illness. He had been a resident of Cherokee County since 1965. Mr. Gengler was born July 9, 1929, in Remsen to Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Gengler. On Jan. 5, 1952, he married Marjorie Bergner in Remsen. He worked for the North American Manufacturing Co. in Sioux City as an experimental engineer from 1967 to 1973. He farmed in the Cherokee area the past 16 years. He was a past member of the Remsen Knights of Columbus, a member of the Cherokee Saddle Club and a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dean, Selma, Ala.; daughters, Mrs. Bob (Debra) Schmodt, Emerson, Neb.; Mrs. Denny (Cindy) Cooper, Merrill, and Shiela, Cherokee; three grandchildren; his father; brothers, Michael Jr., Al, Joseph and Vernon, all of Remsen, and sisters, Mrs. Paul (Norma) Kayser and Mrs. Howard (Rita) Sitzman, both of Le Mars, and Mrs. Roy (Martha) Sitzman, Kingsley. He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother and one sister. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. The Rev. A.E. McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Township Cemetery east of Quimby. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.
