Lachnit, was born on a farm about five miles east of Cedar Rapids, Nebr. on April 7, 1912 and departed this life on March 30, 1934 at the age of 21 years, 11 months and 21 days. His sudden death came as a great blow not only to his immediate family but to the entire community as well, being a young man who had always enjoyed good health his sickness and death came as a great surprise. On Friday afternoon he became suddenly ill and after all that medical skill and loving hands could do, after a few hours of suffering God called him to his eternal reward. The thought often enters our minds in a case such as this, why should someone as him with his life before him be called, whom it seems could have done so much good in this world. Indeed the most heartfelt sympathy of this community is extended to the parents of this young man. He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lachnit, eight brothers, Frank of Maywood, Ill., Martin, of Polo, Mo., Lawrence, of Boone, Nebr., and Leonard, Herman, Joseph, Anthony and Walter and three other brothers who preceded him in death. He also leaves two sisters, Helen and Evelyn and a host of friends and other relatives. Services were held Tuesday morning from St. Anthony's Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. Vermullen, officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery by that of his brother Albert who passed away in 1924. The honorary pallbearers were: Joe Miller, Adolph Haschke, Frank Schuele, Joe Novacek, John Petersik and Dennis Paprocki, while the active pallbearers were: Sylvester and Raymond Schmitz, Alphonse and Arnold Korth, Marcellas Kleve and Evald Paprocki. Those attending from a distance were: Henry Lachnit and daughters, Margaret and Henrietta of Humphrey, Frank Lachnit of Maywood, Ill., Martin Lachnit of Polo, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lachnit and baby of Boone, Dennis and Margaret Paprocki of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kruse, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kleve and Mrs. Roy Kruse all of St. Edward.
