Description	:	Mr. Raymond "Pockets" Reid Vernon, Sr., 76 of Mt. Airy went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, August 24, 2012 at NC Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Vernon was born in Surry County on July 2, 1936 to the late John Luther and Mae Collins Vernon. He was retired from Mt. Airy went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, August 24, 2012 at NC Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Vernon was born in Surry County on July 2, 1936 to the late John Luther and Mae Collins Vernon. He was retired from Mt. Airy Furniture Factory and was a member of Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church. Raymond enjoyed a full and rich life with his family, church family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ethel Haynes Vernon of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Rev. Robbie Sizemore of Hayesville; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Reid and Kathy Vernon, Jr. of Portland, TN; five grandchildren, Amanda Messick, John Sizemore both of Mt. Airy, Chris Vernon, Jessica Vernon both of Portland, TN, and Melissa Vernon of Washington State; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Bill Wood of Dobson, Betty and Bill Glass of Cana, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Dot Vernon of Cana, VA. In addition to his parents Mr. Vernon was preceded in death by two grandsons, Nathaniel William and Cameron Dale Vernon; a sister, Ruth Branscome; two brothers, Lester and Wilburn Vernon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robbie Sizemore, Dr. David Sparks, Rev. Deward Scott and Rev. Todd Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in New Venture Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 until 8 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
