Description	:	Raymond Rolland Quandt, 81, of rural Grand Island went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at CHI Health St. Francis, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be in the Wiegert Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Ray was born on July 17, 1935, son of Walter and Laura (Scherzberg) Quandt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up on the family farm on Prairie Creek, north of Grand Island, with his brothers and sisters, learning the joy of work and farming. Ray attended District 56 and Trinity Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1953. He enlisted and served in the Navy from 1956 to 1958. He married Carol Ann Lowry on June 5, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Carol Ann; daughters and their family, Amy (Doug) Killham and their children, Maggie and Jake, Joni Beckman and her children, Gussie and Zach, Sue (Jeff) Baxter and their children, Alex, Ben and Maddy, and Stephanie (Jeff) Pape and their children, Ty and Quinn; a son-in-law, Kevin (Angie) McConnell and his children, Megan and Cameron; sisters, Geri (Gene) Thompson and Deb (Paul) Smedra; brothers, Loyal (Lorene) Quandt and Allen (Carol) Quandt; sisters-in-law, Beverly Quandt and Linda Quandt; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angie McConnell; his parents; stepmother, Evelyn Peterson; brothers, Harlan, Loran and Ralph Quandt; sister, Patty Quandt; and sisters-in-law, Sylvina and Jean Quandt. Ray served on the District 56 School Board, Grand Island Northwest School Board, and Trinity Lutheran Church Board of Trustees and as a Lay Minister. Ray loved playing baseball and softball and remembering the games with his teammates. He enjoyed watching his girls compete in all sports and taught them their work ethic early on. He loved his sons-in-law, always looking forward to the next card game. His family and friends loved his great sense of humor and admired his love of life. He was proud to be a husband to Carol for 57 years, a father of 5, grandfather of 12, a farmer and a child of God. Ray Quandt was a man of the soil, loved the land, newborn calves, checking the crops, his Sandhills pasture and rain. But most of all, he loved his God and repeatedly would remind everyone, “We are so blessed.”
