Description	:	LOUP CITY - Harlan Quandt, 83, of Loup City died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Shawn Kitzing officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Quandt was born Feb. 5, 1929, at Grand Island to Walter and Laura (Scherzberg) Quandt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvina. Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Ockinga of Hastings, Emilie McGovern of Grand Island; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ervin Quandt, and Norman and Margaret Quandt, all of Loup City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Loyal and Lorene Quandt, Raymond and Carol Ann Quandt, Allen and Carol Quandt; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Geri and Gene Thompson and Debra and Paul Smedra; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Quandt. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and spouses, Phil and Kelsie Ockinga, Andrew and Jennifer Ockinga, Tim and Abbey Ockinga, Josh and Betsy Quandt, John Quandt, Anne and Marty Brewer and Jayne McGovern; one great-grandson, Miles Joseph Ockinga. He was also preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Evelyn; brothers, Loran and Ralph; sister, Patty and infant sister, Lorraine. He grew up and attended school in Grand Island through the 8th grade. On March 12, 1950, he married Sylvina Stelk at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island. After their marriage they moved to a farm west of Loup City. They farmed their entire lives west of Loup City. Sylvina passed away July 16, 2007. Harlan moved to Rose Lane Home June, 2010. Harlan and Sylvina were active in the Wiggle Creek 49er's 4-H Club and also very active with Immanuel Lutheran Church and Sunday School. Harlan was a founding partner of the Loup City Live Stock Company in 1980. He enjoyed collecting farm machinery and toy tractors and playing cards.
