Description	:	Raymond Spurling "Ray" Dawson, 82 of St. Edward, NE, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE. Raymond, the son of Clayton Edgar and Doris Spurling Dawson was born April 15, 1929 at Elgin, Nebraska. Ray grew up in St. Edward, receiving his elementary education in the St. Edward Public Schools, and graduating from St. Edward High School in 1947. Read More	Raymond Spurling "Ray" Dawson, 82 of St. Edward, NE, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE. Raymond, the son of Clayton Edgar and Doris Spurling Dawson was born April 15, 1929 at Elgin, Nebraska. Ray grew up in St. Edward, receiving his elementary education in the St. Edward Public Schools, and graduating from St. Edward High School in 1947. Ray married Florence Wright on February 2, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Lincoln. Ray entered the United States Army in 1952 and was stationed in Columbus, Georgia. Following his discharge in 1954, they lived a short time in English, Indiana where he attended linotype school. They returned to St. Edward where he worked for his father at the St. Edward Advance until 1961 when he purchased the business. He owned and operated the business until 1994 when he sold it to his daughter, Stephanie. Ray continued to work at the Advance until his health no longer permitted. In August of 2009 he entered Edgewood Vista in Columbus where he lived until moving to Mory's Haven in 2010. In February of 2011 he moved to Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward. It was there where he passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the age of 82. Ray was a member of the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church and a Presbyterian Elder. He served on the St. Edward Fire Department for 12 years, and was a member of the American Legion Crosier Post #226. He also served as chairman of the St. Edward Housing Authority and was a member and past president of the Board of Education of Boone County School District #17. Surviving Ray are his daughters: Elizabeth Henning & husband Ray of Hebron, NE; Stephanie Dawson of St. Edward; Cynthia Feeser & husband Denny of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Jennifer Miller & husband Bob of Waterloo, NE; 5 grandchildren: Shawn Henning of Seattle, WA; Megan Schriner & husband Eric of Grand Island, NE; Andrew Feeser of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Ben Miller of Omaha, NE; Emily Miller of Waterloo, NE; sister, Phyllis Riggs of Englewood, CO. and a host of relatives and friends. Ray was preceded in death by: parents, wife Florence, brother Denzel Dawson & wife Donna. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, NE. with Military Honors by Crosier American Legion Post# 226 of St. Edward, NE.
