He was born on Mother's Day, May 13, 1928, in Golden, CO, a son of Thomas N. and Margaret C. Sparks Pearce. He lived on the home ranch in Golden Gate Canyon that his grandfather started after coming to the United States from Cornwall, England in 1878 and working in the mine fields in that area. Pearce, 56, passed away Tuesday evening in the Deaconess Hospital in Billings. He was born on Mother's Day, May 13, 1928, in Golden, CO, a son of Thomas N. and Margaret C. Sparks Pearce. He lived on the home ranch in Golden Gate Canyon that his grandfather started after coming to the United States from Cornwall, England in 1878 and working in the mine fields in that area. His father was born on the ranch in 1902. Ray lived on the home ranch until moving to Montana in the spring of 1972 with his family. He worked for twenty years for Jefferson County Road Department in Colorado from 1952 to 1972 in Golden Gate Canyon. He loved working with livestock. When younger he broke horses and enjoyed riding the high country looking after the cattle on the summer range. He married Julia Wheling on October 23, 1949, in Golden, CO and they made their home on the home ranch. Mr. Pearce loved his home and family and made them his life. His mother lives on the ranch northeast of Big Timber. He was preceded in death by his father in July 1974. He is survived by his wife, Julia Pearce; two sons, Daniel T. Pearce and Donald R. Pearce both living on the Big Timber ranch; his other, Margaret Pearce; one grandson, Joshua Pearce and one step-grandson, Jason Hunt. Private funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowry Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Haugen of the Big Timber Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. Casket bearers were Lyle Jones, Pete Harms, Don Bainter, Axel Voldberg, Clair Streeter, and Herb Kolschefsky. Honorary bearers were all of his friends. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. David Roys.
