A member of the First Baptist Church of Bean Station, he was a long time member of the Grainger County Commission and a school bus driver for over 40 years. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Layel, he is survived by his sons, Raymond Layel Jr., Lowell Layel and Kenneth Layel; a daughter, Lois Spradling; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
