Occupation: Farmer REASON BAKER (Farmer and Stock-raiser, Post-Office, Oak Dale) Mr. Baker is a native of Indiana, born in Switzerland Co., on the 26th day of January, 1822. His parents were Edwin and Sarah Baker, from South[sic] Carolina. Reason Baker was reared in Kentucky, and in 1843 was married to Miss Dorinda, a daughter of William and Nancy Dudgeon, of Jessamine County, KY., and of the same original family of which William A. Dudgeon, of Fayette, in Howard Co., MO., druggist and county treasurer, descends. Mr. Baker came to Missouri in 1853 and settled in Shelby County, where he bought 240 acres of land. Soon afterwards he added 80 acres, making a fine stock farm of 320 acres, on which he has been engaged in raising rain and stock, the latter including horses, mules, cattle, etc. During the late war he served about four months in the militia. Mr. and Mrs. Baker have eight children: James R., Amanda E., William M., Martha J., George E., Cornelius S., Reason C. and Richard M. Three others died in infancy. FELL, BREAKING NECK SHELBYVILLE, Mo., Feb. 19.— Reason Baker, living with Neel Baker near Oak Dale, is dead. He ate a hearty dinner Saturday and went out on the porch. There was a stove sitting on the porch and it is thought that he was trying to move it when his heart failed him and he fell backward off the porch and broke his neck. Mr. Baker was born in Switzerland county, Ind., Jan. 26, 1822. His wife died Feb. 3, 1895. Seven children, all living in this county, attended the funeral. R. C. Baker, who lives at Billings, Mont., was unable to attend. Mr. Baker came to Missouri in 1852, and in 1853 settled in this county where he bought 240 acres of land. Soon afterwards he added 80 acres, making a fine stock farm of 320 acres, and for many years was engaged in raising stock and grain. Funeral services were held Monday at the residence.
