A. Duckworth, was anticipated last week when we went to press. She lingered until Thursday afternoon last, most of the time unconscious, and passed away at a quarter before two, the light of life going out like the dying of a taper burned to the socket. Mrs. Duckworth was a most estimable woman, whose worth and worthiness was widely known. A kinder heart never beat sympathetically for humanity, whether under her own roof or asking tender solicitude in the home of another. Nature had been kind in pouring into her veins a noble blood, with an ancestry of brain of the finest texture. For years her disposition to do and her unselfish living had taxed her waning strength to the utmost. Shielded in a home luxuriantly provided, she spared not herself but put into the months and years of her brief stay a ministration of sweetest charity that will remain in the thought and grateful remembrance of hundreds of people, both at home and abroad. She was born in Indiana, Feb. 7, 1841, and moved into Davis county when a child, where she was married at the age of eighteen. Two children have passed into the spirit world and four remain behind to cherish her memory. She for years had recognized the claims of God upon her and was a consistent member of the Congregational church when she died. The Eastern Star sisters are wearing a badge of mourning for her, realizing that though the star has been eclipsed on earth by death, it rises to shine forever on some fairer sky, with a luster undimmed by care or sorrow and with a strength that knows no waning. The expressions of sympathy by the people during Mrs. Duckworth's brief illness were so hearty and so overflowing that any words we can write in honor of a beloved wife and a self sacrificing mother, comes far short of the merits of the case, but were more completely expressed by her neighbors and by the community generally at the funeral. Although Friday was very warm the house and yard were thronged with personal friends. The services were full of tender memory spoken by her pastor, Rev. Theo. C. Walker, who had just returned from his vacation, in time to see the life go out, and be present upon this occasion. The Eastern Star Society formed the escort to the grave, and the long procession moved with tearful interest to Oakland cemetery, where the precious dust lies undisturbed. The grave holds the body in sacred trust, but memory will keep green her name as long as human hearts shall beat, for she has touched many with a purity of life that can never die.
