He was born in Tennessee, February 22, 1813; removed to Indiana with his father Andrew Evans, in 1830 and was married there to Miss Elizabeth Goldsmith and to them was born nine children, seven of whom are yet living; James, Thomas, and Samuel, Mrs. Mahala Morgan, wife of B. Morgan; Mrs. Julia Rawlings, wife of Joseph Rawlings of Ceresco, Nebraska; Elizabeth King, wife of Archibald King; Mrs. Harriet Scott, wife of John Scott; the wife of Capt. W. A. Duckworth, now deceased was a daughter of Mr. Evans. He removed to Davis county in 1850, and 15 years ago his first wife died and in 1880 he was married to Mrs. Rebecca Kneedler who survives him. William Evans came of good old Revolutionary stock inheriting patriotism and Presbyterianism from a long line of ancestry; he was honest, thrifty, firm and steadfast in his opinions; a good citizen, honored and respected by all who knew him. The funeral took place on Monday last, and was largely attended. All his surviving children were present.
