March 10, 1908 - Carroll Sentinel - Mrs. Rebecca C. Woodring, wife of R.R. Woodring died at her home in this city Friday afternoon after a brief illness of a few days. Her death came a surprise to many for few comparatively were aware of her sickness. On last Sunday she felt the first attack of the disease that so soon was to end in death. So malignant was the disease from the first that medical aid was sought and all was done that human hands could do to restore her to health, their feeble efforts were of no avail and without any apparent rally she passed away as stated above. The funeral services were held at the home and were conducted by Rev. Triem of the Presbyterian church. A quartet composed of Mrs. Coloco, Miss Eva Thompson and Messrs, Bruner and Wilhite accompanied by Mrs. Merchant, furnished the music, the ritual of the Eastern Star was also observed. The funeral was attended by a large gathering of friends of the deceased who had come to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of one they had known and loved. Mrs. Woodring was a member of the Presbyterian church and was an active worker in the Eastern Star. The pall bearers were four of her grandchildren, Judd, Bart, and Lynn Forbes and Robert Dietrich. The deceased was one of those quiet able women who devoted her life to her home and spared no effort to make it the one pleasant place on earth. In her home she lived a happy, contented life doing what she could to lighten the burdens of others. Those who knew her best were her greatest admirers. If faithful devotion to duty and love for those who were nearest and dearest to her count in the affairs of life, no one is entitled to higher cognition than the dear old mother, who so cheerfully met all of its responsibilities and on last Friday paid its last great penalty. The husband and children of the departed have the sympathy of all in the great affliction through which they are called to pass, that of bidding farewell to wife and mother. Mrs. Rebecca C. Woodring was born Columbiana county, Ohio, Aug. 28, 1835 and died March 6, 1908. If she had lived to her next birthday she would have been 73 years old. In 1857 she moved with her parents to Dekalb county, Ind. There she was united in marriage to R.R. Woodring June 1860. After their marriage they moved to Ohio and made their home in Defiance county for one year, then they moved to Stevenson county, Illinois, and after a two years residence they again returned to Ohio. In 1867 they located in Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1881 they located in this city and have made their home here since that time. The deceased was the mother of three children: J.E., Emma Forbes, and Carrie Dietrich; and ten grandchildren all of whom were present at the funeral. In the death of Mrs. Woodring the community loses a good citizen and the father a devoted wife and the children their best friend, their mother. The remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery.
