Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Deer Park, Mr. George was the son of the late Reginald Paul George Sr. and Agnes Tresia (Holtschneider) George. He was also preceded in death by his sister, R. The war ended before he... Read More	— CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- R. Paul George Jr., 85, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Deer Park, Mr. George was the son of the late Reginald Paul George Sr. and Agnes Tresia (Holtschneider) George. He was also preceded in death by his sister, R. LaVerne Mathews; and his brother, L. Wilbur George. A graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1943, Paul was a United States Army/Air Corps veteran during World War II as a Flight Engineer. The war ended before he received his Second Lieutenant Commission. After his honorable discharge, Paul graduated from the General Motors Institute and retired as the General Service Manager at Spoerl's Pontiac Cadillac and later Timbrook with 46 years of service. With the help of his service team, Paul was named National Cadillac Service Excellence Award Winner for 13 years in a row. He also received numerous recognitions from Pontiac Motors for service excellence. Paul enjoyed duck pin bowling, golf, and bass fishing. He was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus; a life-member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 63; the Cumberland Outdoor Club where he served on the hunting and fishing committee. Paul was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served as a volunteer. He was the City of Cumberland Horseshoe Champion and loved to throw ringers. Paul was an avid Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Maryland sports fan. He was a kind, gentle, and loving man who loved his family dearly and led by living the example. Paul is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances T. (Campbell) George; his sons, Joseph P. George and his wife, Sue, Cumberland, Stephen M. George and his wife, Beth, Lutherville; his grandsons, Jim George and his wife, Mindy, Brian George, Harrisburg, Pa., and Chris George, Lutherville; his granddaughters, Kathy George, Baltimore, Laura George, and Megan George, both Lutherville; as well as his great-granddaughter, Judah George, Cumberland. He also leaves behind two special nieces who were like daughters to Paul, Louise (Campbell) Romero and her husband, Wayne and their son Chris, and Therese (Campbell) Wathen and her husband, George, and their son and daughter, Chase and Jamie, all of Denver, Colo.; his sister, Rita C. Luther and her husband, Robert, Clifton Forge, Va.; his brother, Foster C. George and his wife, Helen, Cumberland; his brother-in-law, Charles "Buzz" Mathews; his sisters-in-law, Margie and Don Farrell, Mount Savage, Marianne and Denny Smith, Cumberland, and Mary and Wally Duckworth, Baltimore; a special family friend, Gladys Baker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at 10 a.m. with his Godson, Father Mark Eckman as celebrant. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. The family would like to thank the staff at the Lions Center and Dr. Felipa, Dr. Shin and their staff, for their excellent and loving care and compassion given to Paul. The family requests that memorials be made to the Janet K. Shrout Scholarship Fund, Allegany College of Maryland Foundation, 12401 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502 or S.S.
