Description	:	Death of Mrs. Arend Abbas Remda Sap was born in the province of Groningen, Netherlands, on September 17, 1841, and died November 6, 1919. She was married in Holland to Arend Abbas and their wedded life there was blessed with five children, one of whom died in infancy. Upon leaving the Holland home they emigrated to America. They came to German Township, Grundy county, Iowa, where they began farming about two miles northeast of Cleves. Read More	Death of Mrs. Arend Abbas Remda Sap was born in the province of Groningen, Netherlands, on September 17, 1841, and died November 6, 1919. She was married in Holland to Arend Abbas and their wedded life there was blessed with five children, one of whom died in infancy. Upon leaving the Holland home they emigrated to America. They came to German Township, Grundy county, Iowa, where they began farming about two miles northeast of Cleves. A sturdy Dutch honor characterized their walk in life and they prospered with other neighboring farmers, in the rich agricultural region. After some years the family removed to the Dutch community some miles to the north of the first home, and east of Ackley. Here they were members of the Dutch Reformed church throughout the years. Here their children grew to maturity and started out in life for themselves. It was here the father died in 1903, and the fifth child, Philip, died in his young manhood. The children who survive the mother are Tena (Mrs. John Rietema) of Kanawha, Ia., George of Grundy county; Fannie (Mrs. Joe Josiassi) and Ben, both of Grundy county; Hilgeen (Mrs. Peter Kannegeiter) of Grundy County; Fred and Bert, at home, in Butler county. The descendents of Mrs. Abbas number eight children, twenty two grand-children and sixteen great grand-children. Mrs. Tena Rietema of Kanawha, the oldest daughter came from the home and cared for the mother during the months of her illness, until her death, November 6, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 19 days. Rev. D. Plesher of the Dutch Reformed church had charge of the funeral, Monday, Nov. 10, at the home and at the church, and the mortal form was laid away to rest in the little cemetery adjoining the church.
