Description	:	Arend was born in Bunderneuland, Ostfriesland, Germany. The area is part of Bunde parish and the general area later was called Bentheim, Lower Saxony, Germany. Arend was listed as being the guardian of his wife's sister, Jantje Sap, prior to her marriage to Haike ter Veldhuis on 03 August 1872. Arend and his family came to the US in 1873. The "Dutch Immigrants in U.S. Passenger Manifests 1820-1880 Vol. 1" lists Arend Abbas (34), a farmer, Renda Abbas (24), housewife, and four children: daughter Trientje (6); son Gerrit (3); son Joseph (infant) and daughter Trentje (infant). They emigrated to the U.S. together with his brother and sister-in-law, Bernard G. and Cornelia Drees Abbas. They were passengers # 895-900; Berend (24), Gea (23) & infant daughter were passengers #901-902. Their accommodations on the ship were in the steerage between the decks. The two families arrived at Castle Garden, New York City on 19 May 1873. Arend Abbas (42 Prussia) appears in the 1880 United States Federal Census for German Township, Grundy County, Iowa along with his wife, Remda Abbas (39 Prussia) and 7 children, Prientje Abbas (18 Prussia), Geerd Abbas (14 Prussia), Fentje Abbas (12 Prussia), Phillipus Abbas (8 Holland), Hilligien Abbas (5 Iowa), Freerk Abbas (3 Iowa) and Engelbertus Abbas (8 months Iowa). Arend was a farmer. Arend Abbas (46) is enumerated in the 1885 Iowa State Census for German Township, Grundy County, Iowa (page 2, family 147) along with his wife, Remda Abbas (43) and children, Geerd Abbas (19), Feutje Abbas (17), Philip Abbas (13) and Hillichin Abbas (10). The three youngest Freerk Abbas (8), Engelbertus Abbas (3) and Berend Abbas (3) are found on (page 322 family 177). Arend G Abbas (61, Sep 1838 Germany) is found in the 1900 United States Federal Census (1 June 1900) for Washington Township, Butler County, Iowa (sheet 1A, dwelling 5). He and Remda F. Abbas (58, Sept 1841 Germany) have been married 39 years and have nine children, seven living, four at home: Fantje Abbas (28, Dec 1871 Holland), Freerk A. Abbas (22, April 1878 Iowa), Englebertus Abbas (19, Aug 1880 Iowa) and Berend Abbas (17, April 1883 Iowa). They immigrated in 1873. Arend was a farmer. Arend died when he was 65 years and 26 days old. Notice of Arends death was printed on page 8 of the Wednesday, 21 October 1903, The World newspaper, Ackley, Iowa. The death of Arend Abbas occurred at his home, two miles south of Austinville, Tuesday last. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Christian Reformed church, conducted by Rev. Pletcher, of Parkersburg. His age was sixty-five years. The following is the will of Arend G. Abbas, as recorded on 12 December 1903, page 57, Butler County, Iowa, Wills: Washington Township, Butler County, Iowa, September 25, 1903 I, Arend G. Abbas of Washington Township, Butler County, Iowa, being of sound and disposing mind, hereby make this last will and testament, revoking all former will. First, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Remda Abbas, all my estate both real and personal and of whatever nature to be held by her as long as she lives, for her use and maintenance, she may sell whatever personal property she thinks best to dispose of and at her death I desire and direct that whatever estate both real and personal that remains shall be divided among my children their living as follows: Trientje Rietema shall be paid $1,000 One Thousand, $1000, Dollars, Geerd Abbas, Prientje Josias and Hilka Kannegieter shall each be paid Two thousand $2000.00 dollars. And Freerk Abbas, Engelbert Abbas and Arend Abbas shall have the remainder of my estate of whatever estate both real and personal. I further direct that if any of my children having mentioned or named shall die before this my estate is divided and final settlement made I desire and direct that his or her share shall go to the remaining heirs hereto mentioned and named. I hereby appoint and nominate my son Engelbert Abbas as the Executor of this my last will and testament and I desire that he be not obliged to give any bonds as such Executor. Arend G.
