Description	:	ROCHESTER; Rene J. Croteau, 81, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at his home after a long period of failing health. Mr. Croteau was born in Berlin on May 20, 1926, the son of Ernest and Flora Croteau and was a resident of Rochester since 1959, moving from Berlin. Prior to his retirement, he was a nuclear pipe welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, retiring after 30 years. Croteau, 81, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at his home after a long period of failing health. Mr. Croteau was born in Berlin on May 20, 1926, the son of Ernest and Flora Croteau and was a resident of Rochester since 1959, moving from Berlin. Prior to his retirement, he was a nuclear pipe welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, retiring after 30 years. He was a communicant of our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, a Veteran of World War II who served with the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Metal Trades Council 788. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing the guitar as well as the organ, and enjoyed spending time at his camp in Errol. Rene was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all. Surviving members of the family include: his wife of 61 years, Aline (Lemieux) Croteau of Rochester; two sons, Charles Croteau and his wife, Pauline, of Strafford, and Daniel Croteau and his wife, Susan, of Milton; two daughters, Susan McQueen and her husband, Rev. William, of Berwick, Maine, and Carolyn Vasquez and her husband, Dr. Bernard, of Rochester; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at the H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, N.H., on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 189 North Main St., Rochester, N.H., with burial in the spring in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
